The goals of the Music Program are to teach music for singing and performing pleasure, to teach about the structure of music (music theory), and to teach music literacy (touching on music history and eras, composers and their works).
As songs are learned, the elements of music are studied, starting with beat and rhythm. Students move on to pitch and melodies using the slide whistle and the xylophones in order to learn about steps and leaps.
Band is offered starting in grade 4, but many students begin in upper grades.The band performs in two concerts per year, and also does a combined performance with St. ThomasMoreSchool on the annual “Band Day.”
