Learning Garden
St. Luke School serves students in Preschool through 8th grade. We are proud to share that students in each grade have a role in caring for their assigned raised garden bed and being a part of the greater goals and maintenance of the school garden.
Originally, we partnered with Tilth Alliance to assist in the development of a rich curriculum as well as staff training in this outdoor classroom. Our garden is a place where children’s learning helps them to make connections between their experiences and the world around them in a meaningful context.
We are a sustaining King County Level 4 Green School and maintain measures of water prevention, garbage sorting, and reduced electricity within the school. Students sort garbage daily from the lunchroom. A worm bin was added to the garden to show students the full cycle that transforms compostable waste into a renewed resource to enrich the garden soil.
