Afterschool Care K - 8th Grade

St. Luke School K-8 Extension Program supports families by offering a safe and caring atmosphere for St. Luke School students before and after the school day. We provide qualified supervision, free-play time, directed activities, and study time, to foster creative abilities, learning skills, and social relationships. St. Luke K-8 Extension staff is committed to the families we serve, providing support and encouragement.

DAILY MORNING SCHEDULE

7:00am-8:20am	Check-in, games, toys, free art and coloring*
8:20am-8:30am	Dismissal to class

*No computer usage time for homework due to the short extension session.

DAILY AFTERNOON SCHEDULE

3:00pm – 3:30pm	Check-In
3:30pm – 5:00pm	Study/homework time is provided for all students, including use of Chromebooks.*
5:00pm - 6:00pm	Clean up, quiet activities, movies.
6:00pm	CLOSE

*NOTE- Chromebooks are only available until 4:20pm.

*Tuesday: dismissal is at 2:00 PM, everything will be moved up one hour with a longer free play and outside block.

Also provided are weekly crafts, coloring, games, outdoor activities, Netflix and Disney+ shows or movies, and free play. Students may also eat their snacks during this time. A note about snacks in Extension: Snacks are NOT provided as a part of the program. Please pack extra snacks for afternoon Extension. It may be helpful to mark the snack "Extension" or keep it in a special place in your child's backpack.

Curriculum Statement

While there is no formal curriculum, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) is the focus of the directed crafts and activities. Children are not required to participate in directed activities, but when they do, they will be learning in multiple areas. Our goal is to encourage children to be enthusiastic, self-confident, independent learners and we believe that play is the primary mode of learning. Our Extension program also respects cultural differences and ever-changing interests. Through our interactions, we promote growth in all areas of development including:

Social: to help children learn from adults and one another by observation, imitation, and interaction.
Emotional: to provide a safe and secure environment where children can develop pride, self-confidence, independence, self-control, and a positive attitude toward life.
Cognitive: to promote curiosity and to help children acquire learning skills, such as the ability to solve problems, make choices, ask questions, and express their ideas, observations, and feelings.
Physical: to help children develop and enhance their small and large muscle skills and feel confident and comfortable with their own bodies.

Our K-8 Extension classroom goals are achieved through integrated, theme-based activities and conversations with adults and children. Opportunities also exist for the child to engage in one-on-one activities with the staff, small and large group activities, solitary and independent play, allowing for opportunities to experiment and explore. Whole group activities are for short periods of time and are suited to the age and ability of the children. Supervised free play and small groups predominate as a means of encouraging social interaction.

	Morning drop-in extension families will pay a flat rate of $9 for each morning of drop-in services, regardless of check-in time.	Afternoon extension families will pay $9 per hour.	If more than 15 minutes late, you will be charged the full hour

Late Pick - Up Charge

Our K-8 Extension Program ends promptly at 6:00 p.m. In case you are delayed, it is important to have an alternative plan in place for the pick-up of your child(ren).

Parents, who have not arrived for their children by 6:00 p.m., add $5.00 for the first 5 minutes and $5.00 per minute thereafter. The same applies to those children dropped off earlier than 7:00 am; they will be charged per minute before 7:00 am. This fee will be directly billed.

This policy is strictly enforced. If we have families who are repeatedly picked up late we will have to address if Extension is the best option for your family. We ask for your consideration of our staff’s time and personal commitments by picking up your children on time.

Monthly Statement

Statements are sent out on a monthly basis. Contracts statements will be sent at the beginning of the month, for that month of care. Drop In statements will be for the accumulated care for the previous month. Parents will receive a statement each month reflecting hours used and credit remaining or balance due. You can pay your bill online at MyProcare.com using the email address that is on your child’s Emergency Form. Please make sure your email address is current. Other ways to pay are at the check in/out kiosk, or by check with “Extension” in the memo line.

Parents will receive a monthly statement, but should not wait for that statement to prepay for that month.

Past Due Balances

Any past due tuition balance remaining unpaid 60 days after the due date may be subject to a late fee of $25 per month.

Trimester report cards and or transcripts may be withheld from families who are not current on their Extension payments. If parents fall too far behind on their payments they will need to make an appointment with the Principal and Business Manager to work out a payment schedule; otherwise parents will be asked to find other care for their child(ren).

Preferred: MyProCare.com (convenient online portal) Use the email your statement is sent to when setting up your account.

Tuition Express: Sign up at Extension for auto-pay from your checking account or credit card. See the Director for more information and form.

You can also make a payment with debit/credit at the check-in kiosk.

Checks can be made out to “St. Luke Extension” with your child’s first and last name written in the memo section. This is especially important for families with two last names. You can mail payments to the St. Luke School, 17533 Saint Luke Place North, Seattle WA 98133.

Additional Extension Policy Information

Morning Sign-In

Afternoon Sign-Out

Parents must sign-out children on the check-in computer.

PYP students may not use the kiosk, including touching the screen, or helping parents check out.

PERSONS OTHER THAN PARENTS PICKING UP CHILDREN MUST EITHER BE AUTHORIZED ON THE EMERGENCY CARD OR PARENTS MUST SEND WRITTEN NOTICE/ EMAIL/TELEPHONE CALL FOR CHILDREN TO BE RELEASED.

It is the parent's responsibility to make sure that the sign-out process is completed. We cannot monitor the exact time your child is picked up. At 6 pm, extension staff checks to make sure all students have been signed out. If your child was not signed out, extension staff uses their best estimate to sign them out for you, which could potentially incur additional charges. We appreciate your diligence in signing your child out of extension.

Communication

Parents may communicate with the Director or Extension staff by written notes, emails, telephone, or in person. Parents cannot expect a staff member’s full attention if children are present but may make a private appointment with the K-8 Extension Director.

To authorize or revoke authorization pick-ups for your child we must receive this by email to the K-8 Extension email, extension@stlukeshoreline.org, with a CC to the Extension Director, Heidi Randolph, hrandolph@stlukeshoreline.org.

Volunteer Extension Hours

K-8 Extension volunteer hours will be put on the volunteer log-in sheet through Parent’s Club at double the time volunteered.

Examples: Assist staff with activities, reading small children's stories, heading or teaching students a skill or activity, tutoring children, assisting students with homework, and bringing snacks for Extension children (please never bring nut products of any kind)

Snow Days

The K-8 Extension follows school procedures. If school is closed, Extension is closed. If school is on a 2 hour delay schedule, Morning Extension will be closed, but Afternoon Extension will be open.

Please note: In the event of inclement weather please have your phone and/or email readily available. If there is early dismissal due to inclement weather, there will be no PM Extension. Children will never be left unattended, but for the safety of our staff and their families, please make every effort to pick up your child(ren) early.

Policies & Behavior

Our program is an extension of the St. Luke School day. As such, it conforms to the policies and procedures of the school as outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook. Our program is designed according to guidelines outlined by the National Catholic Education Association. If a child’s behavior is unacceptable, he or she may be asked to leave the Extension Program for a period of time or indefinitely.
