St. Vincent de Paul Jr Associates

St. Vincent de Paul logo in a circle

This is a wonderful, rewarding opportunity for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to serve the St. Luke Community, earn service hours, and gain experiences that will help them grown in their faith journey.  Students are from St. Luke School, home-schooled, and area public schools.

St. Vincent de Paul Advisors: Erin Schmidt, Tanya Higgins and Debra Ricard
St. Vincent de Paul Support: Council President, Leigh Goodrich

Mission: Our call to care for others; to love our neighbor.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is unique, instead of those in need going to a location to receive assistance, the Adult Vincentians go out. Two-by-two, St. Vincentians go out to those in need visiting them where they live.

St. Vincent de Paul JUNIORS started with the interest of a seventh grade student who wanted to learn more about St. Vincent de Paul. His intrigue expanded from a mere writing assignment in Mrs. Fargo's St Luke seventh grade class to attending a St. Luke St. Vincent de Paul's Conference meeting and visiting Georgetown Food Bank with the conference president. The JUNIORS program started the following fall in 20217, comprised of six 6-8th grade students and two adult advisors. This group was and remains the first of its kind in the Pacific Northwest and has grown to over 30 students with 29 accompanying parents this year.

The St. Vincent de Paul JUNIORS, over the years, have thrived when they are given service opportunities!  Each year, we plan activities according to the students' interests, some of which have been:‚Äč

  • Putting together care packages/school backpacks for individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Meal assembly for Camp United We Stand
  • Potential Field trips to the Georgetown St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, Tent City, and Hopelink
  • Helping with St. Vincent de Paul sponsored Christmas and Thanksgiving Baskets
  • Collecting non-food items for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank
  • Serving at the Tri-Parish Food Bank in Burlington, WA
  • Nearby Park trash clean-up
  • Other ideas decided by the group
